Tillväxt och överlevnad av planterad ek, bok och avenbok på restaureringsytor i Söderåsens nationalpark under åren 2003 till 2009

This report presents the results of sapling surveys within twelve plantation areas in Söderåsen National Park, southern Sweden, during the years 2003 to 2009. After seven growing seasons, planted Quercus robur saplings generally show high survival (>90%) and good growth (30- 50 cm yr-1). Saplings of Fagus sylvatica and Carpinus betulus on clear-cuts had a survival of 70-90% and a yearly growth of 10-20 cm. Beech planted under shelterwood of birch or spruce had a survival of 60-70% and a yearly growth of 5-10 cm, except for beech under one of the spruce shelters where most saplings had died two years after planting. The variability in plant height has increased with time. In 2009, both small and large individuals show good vitality and the risk for further mortality is estimated as low for clear-cuts and as moderate for shelterwoods.
