Abstract

The leaf beetle Donacia springeri Müller 1916, was long known from Sweden through 19-th century records from Scania in addition to several records from the 1970s onwards at a single locality near Stockholm. A targeted search in 26 lakes around Stockholm in 2013 resulted in the discovery of a new locality situated ca. 11 km from the existing. The species seems to be associated with small oligotrophic lakes surrounded by Sphagnum-fens and with growth of sedges (mainly Carex elata) along the shores; a lake-type which is rather common in Sweden. In the light of this information, the possible distribution of the species is discussed, along with the implications for an upcoming red list evaluation.
