Abstract
The Swedish National Forest Inventory conducts control surveys on approximately 5 percent of the sample each year to systematically assess the reliability of the collected data. The selection of tracts and sample plots to be re-measured is made subjectively, with a focus on checking plots containing both living trees and harvested trees. Consequently, the analysis of the variables included in the data collection cannot be directly translated into how the reported systematic measurement errors affect the estimates that constitute SLU’s official statistics. Overall, the results of the analyses (summarized in the appended table at the end of the report) are clearly satisfactory. Of the 120 variables analysed, 79 (66%) show good reliability, 32 (27%) show moderate reliability, and 9 (7%) show weak reliability. The results are consistent with previous analyses and provide a basis for revising certain variables that are difficult to inventory.
