Nationell Riktad Skogsskadeinventering: resultat från Granbarkborreinventering 2024

Target tailored forest damage inventories have been conducted since 2020 in southern Sweden to monitor the outbreak of spruce bark beetle damage on spruce trees, which triggered up after the warm and dry summer of 2018. The autumn of 2024 marked the final year of this phase of the NRS program targeting spruce bark beetle damages in the region, as the damage has now decreased significantly and approaches post-outbreak phase with low levels of killed trees. The reduction is evident in both Götaland and Svealand. Attacks by Polygraphus sp. occurred on 47,000 m3sk which is approximately 20 percent of the killed volume, similar to 2023. Of the affected volume of damaged spruce, approximately 362,000 m³sk, 77 percent remained in the forest at the time of the survey, which is comparable to recovery levels in previous years.
