Abstract

In the summer of 2024, the Institute of Freshwater Research at the Department of Aquatic Resources, SLU Aqua, carried out a survey with multi-mesh gillnets in Lake Vänern. The survey was conducted between 2024-07-11 and 2024-08-01. The included localities were Spårön-Rackeby skärgård, Fågelö-Torsö, Byviken och Ölmeviken. Sätterholmsfjärden was also surveyed, but as it is not included in the regular programme, it excluded from the analysis. Two net-types were used, BKust 9+2 in more shallow areas and Bss in deeper areas. The total catch consisted of 24 species, of which perch and roach were the dominating species seen both to numbers and to mass at more shallow areas (BKust 9+2). At deeper areas, perch and whitefish were the dominating species in both numbers and mass. The catches were analyzed for changes over time in number of individuals as well as their size structure. Between 2009 and 2024 the numbers of perch and bream, and mass of perch and whitefish, have increased. The size of burbot and whitefish have increased.
