Abstract
The zooplankton population is quite constant over time in Lake Vänern, with some variability within and between years. The development is mainly driven by the phytoplankton primary production that in its turn is driven by the prevailing weather conditions as well as the nutrient availability. In 2019 the development was characterised by larger abundances than normal at all locations at both sampling occasions. Most abundant were small rotatorians and copepods. The biovolumes where on the other hand at higher levels than normal in early July, but at lower levels than normal in August. Especially the biovolumes where low in the comparatively large cladocerans that do normally make up a considerable part of the biovolumes in late summer.
